Book Me

Last time I asked for your book recommendations, you sent me some good reads! I'm in need of some new reading material again.... thoughts or suggestions?

I've read the following, which are always recommended: Same Kind of Different as Me; The Shack (I may be the only person on earth who didn't like this book); My Sister's Keeper and pretty much everything else by Jodie Picoult; The Glass Castle; most all Curtis Sittenfeld books.

The floor is yours. What should I be reading?

Did you like Same Kind of Different as Me? The author's daughter Regan was the previous owner of our house. Random info. :) I loved the book...found it very inspirational. Doubt you'd like what I'm reading now (Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child). Are you on Goodreads.com? VERY fun way to keep up with what you're reading and your friends are reading...

I wasn't crazy about The Shack either, Kathryn! Have you read Sarah's Key? It is powerful. Also loved Secret Life of Bees, the book. Haven't seen the movie to compare it. I could send you my book and you could edit for me!

Robin, I really liked Same Kind of Different and recommend it all the time. Your connection to the people in the book is pretty cool. :)

Andrea, thanks for the Sarah's Key recommendation. I'll check it out.

Right now I'm reading "Corner Shop" by Roopa Farooki. I'm halfway through, and so far it's really good. Her first book, "Bitter Sweets" was good too. Lisa See has out a new book I want to read becasue I really enjoyed her others. John Grisham's newest book is also really good if you like thrillers. It is like his first few books that were so great. Happy reading!!

My new book that I recommend to everyone is The Help by Kathryn Stockett. LOVED IT! We are doing it for book club next week.

For a little deeper, incredible book, try Those Who Save Us. A few graphic scenes, but this one stuck with me for months.

I love everything by Erik Larson. Have you read The Devil In The White City? I learned so much reading this one.

Let me know it you read any of these!

From one foodie to another, you might enjoy Ruth Reichl's memoir, "Tender at the Bone" -- she's a NYT food critic who has led a pretty interesting life. She has other books, but I've only read this one -- really enjoyed it plus it includes recipes!

Beyond that, my favorite book that I always recommend is "Year of Wonders" by Geraldine Brooks; about the "plague village" in England that decides to quarantine itself and then has to live with everything that requires. Wonderful book that handles some tough questions -- does God create bad situations, etc.

I'm interested to hear what you pick! :-)
